Admissions Profile
The Doctorate Program in Law and Economics is intended for students with a background in legal sciences, economics, finance and accounting, international relations and other social sciences with a particular interest in the interaction between law and economics, along with a capacity for reflection and critical analysis. It is recommended that students possess an adequate knowledge of languages, especially English, for the study of specialized international resources.
Typically, admission to the official doctorate program in Law and Economics requires both official Bachelor’s and University Master’s degrees (an official Master’s degree in the disciplines of Law, Economics, Business or Finance is specifically required).

Candidate holding a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent + an official Master’s degree in Law, Economics, Business, Finance and/or related disciplines, including training in research methodology with at least 5 ECTS credits or a research project (Master’s dissertation) equivalent to at least 6 ECTS credits.

Profile 3
Candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent + an official Master’s degree in Law, Economics, Business, Finance and/or related disciplines, including a Master’s Dissertation equivalent to at least 6 ECTS credits, but who have not completed training in research methodology in Law, Economics, Business and/or Finance.
Additional training:
ECONOMICS AND LAW RESEARCH METHODOLOGY (5 ECTS).
Specific Admission Criteria
The program´s Academic Committee, chaired by the Program Coordinator, determines whether the candidate meets the general academic requirements for admission.
This criteria are similar for both full-time and part-time students.
Applications for admission will be evaluated by the Academic Committee according to the following student admissions and selection criteria:
1- Academic transcripts, including all prior completed coursework (grade point average), represent 80% of the overall evaluation and are weighed as follows:
· Bachelor Degree Academic transcripts: up to 60%
· Master’s Degree Academic transcripts: up to 20%
2- Résumé, representing 10% of the overall score. The following will be considered:
· The type of knowledge acquired by the candidate during prior training.
· Published materials in scientific journals.
· English level as certified through an officially recognized exam. At a minimum the student must possess a B2 level, according to the Common European Reference Framework for Languages.
3- Letters of recommendation (up to 2), which will represent 10% of the overall score: a letter of recommendation from a faculty member or professional in the candidate´s field of study.
After reviewing the submitted documentation, the Academic Committee may call the applicant for a personal interview with one of its members in order to obtain further information and discuss the merits provided for admission to the PhD program.
Admission procedures for students with special educational needs due to disability.
In the case of students with special educational needs due to disability, the Academic Committee of each program will issue a pre-admission report evaluating the possibility of a modified curriculum, courses and/or alternative studies in accordance to the principles of equal opportunity, without prejudice to the competencies of the universities´ Equal Opportunity programs.
