What are the responsibilities of the thesis supervisor/mentor?
Once admitted to the Doctoral Programme, the corresponding Academic Committee will assign each PhD student a mentor, who is a doctor with accredited research experience, linked to the university.
The mentor will be responsible for the initial counselling and supervision of the PhD student, in addition to the following functions:
- Ensure the interaction of the PhD student with the academic committee.
- Assist doctoral students in their training process by providing them with information, guidance and learning resources.
Within a maximum period of 3 months from enrolment, the Academic Committee responsible for the Programme will assign each PhD student a Doctoral Thesis Adviser, who may or may not coincide with the Mentor. This assignment may be made by any Spanish or foreign doctor with accredited research experience.
The supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the research results of his or her doctoral students are successful and are disseminated by way of communication, transfer to other research contexts or, where appropriate, commercialisation. To this end, an annual report on the progress of the doctoral student must be drawn up, which will be considered by the Academic Commission for the annual evaluation of the Researcher in Training. The Adviser must also give a favourable report on the doctoral thesis.
Both the Mentor and each of the Advisers must:
- Sign the documentary commitment that establishes the functions of supervision of their doctoral students.
- Subscribe to its commitment to comply with the Code of Good Practices adopted by CEINDO.
- Regularly review the Personalised Activity Document of their doctoral students.
