Recommended Admissions Profile
Candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent + an official Master’s degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Building and/or related disciplines, including training in research methodology, with a minimum of 6 ECTS and a research paper (Master’s Dissertation) equivalent to at least 6 ECTS.
A favorable consideration will be given to any prior knowledge of architectural composition and design, history of architecture and urban planning, architectural graphic expression, historical-artistic heritage, construction technology and innovation, urban design, territorial analysis, urban planning law and basic building regulations, as well as general areas of knowledge integral to the Doctorate Program.
Prior knowledge of English Language. Minimum level required: B1, although a higher level will receive favorable consideration. A minimum level of English is required to enable students to read international publications and attend and participate in international conferences. In the case of foreign students who are not native speakers of Spanish, a minimum level of B1 in this language will be required, although a higher level will receive favorable consideration.
No additional training is required.

Profile 2
Candidates holding a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent + an official Master’s degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Building and/or related disciplines, including a Master’s Dissertation equivalent to at least 6 ECTS, but who have not completed training in research methodology in Architecture or Engineering.
Prior knowledge of English Language. Minimum level required: B1, although a higher level will receive favorable consideration. A minimum level of English is required to enable students to read international publications and attend and participate in international conferences.
Foreign students who are not native speakers of Spanish, must possess a minimum level of B1 in this language, although a higher level will receive favorable consideration.
Additional training (6 ECTS) as stated in the admissions criteria.
Profile 3
Candidates holding an official Spanish Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Building and/or related disciplines, with a minimum of 300 ECTS credits, as provided under European law.
Candidates must attend the additional training activities established in Profile 2, in accordance to Article 6 of RD99/201, unless the degree´s curriculum includes research credits in Architecture or Urban Planning, equivalent in educational value to the research credits of Master’s program. The program´s Academic Committee will assess whether the content of each individual degree is appropriate and consistent with the scientific scope of the PhD Program on a case-by-case basis.

Candidates holding a PhD degree granted by a Spanish institution in accordance to former university regulations, in fields related to this Doctorate Program, or Graduates, Architects or Engineers who, in accordance to RD 99/2011, hold the Diploma of Advanced Studies obtained under the provisions of Royal Decree 778/1998, of 30 April, or have attained the research proficiency established by Royal Decree 185/1985, January 23.
Prior knowledge of English Language. Minimum level required: B1, although a higher level will receive favorable consideration. A minimum level of English is required to enable students to read international publications and attend and participate in international conferences.

Profile 5
Graduates, Architects or Engineers who are not in possession of the Diploma of Advanced Studies obtained under the provisions of Royal Decree 778/1998, April 30 and who have not attained the research proficiency established by Royal Decree 185/1985, January 23, but who have completed 60 ECTS at a Master’s level included or recognized by their current degree curriculum.
Prior knowledge of English Language. Minimum level required: B1, although a higher level will receive favorable consideration. A minimum level of English is required to enable students to read international publications and attend and participate in international conferences.
Foreign students who are not native speakers of Spanish must possess a minimum level of B1 in Spanish, although a higher level will receive favorable consideration.

Specific Admissions Criteria
As specified by the provisions in Article 7 of Royal Decree 99/2011, January 28, regulating official doctoral studies, the Academic Committee establishes other admission and selection criteria (in addition to the general academic requirements for admission).
– Admission will be considered for graduates, architects or engineers who hold the Diploma of Advanced Studies obtained under the provisions in Royal Decree 778/1998 of April 30, or who have attained the research proficiency established by Royal Decree 185/1985, January 23. They must complete at least 1 of the optional Additional Training courses specified in point 3.4.
– Admission will be considered for graduates, architects or engineers who do not hold the Diploma of Advanced Studies obtained under the provisions in Royal Decree 778/1998, April 30, and who have not attained the research proficiency established Royal Decree 185/1985, January 23, but who have completed 60 ECTS at a Master’s level included or recognized by their current degree curriculum. These candidates must complete the additional training mentioned in article 7.2 of Royal Decree 99/2011, January 28, as specified in the admissions profile section and point 3.4 of this Report, unless the curriculum of the degree in question includes research training credits, equivalent to research credits at a Master´s level.
